Update -- Why No Updates?

Hey all,

First off, thanks for all the support and feedback that my effort to get published has received so far.  I have not posted in a while because I've been focusing all my spare energy on editing the novel.

Right now, I'm at page 78 of 389 -- that might not seem like a lot of progress, but the bulk of my efforts have been in rejiggering the early part of the book.  In the original version, the first four chapter introduce four major characters: Captain Lucan, Lieutenant Commander Riaz, Commander Steel, and Ensign Sankaranarayanan.  This got me up through page 72, but the trouble was it was a very slow way to start the book.  So my edits have involved taking big chunks of backstory out of the early sections, figuring out how to introduce them later, and moving stuff around so more action starts to happen faster.

It's time consuming, but I'm feeling a lot better about the new product.  Also, my writing the short stories about these characters has really started me thinking even more about their backstories, and some of that is getting into the novel.

Anywho, I'm told there is a big Agents meet Writers event in Burlington in July.  My goal is to have everything ready to go by then.  Which gives me... a month.

Crap.

Fortunately for me, I work best under deadline.
